David B. Higby, 90, former secretary-treasurer of Champion-DeArment Tool Co. (now Channellock) and well known Methodist layman, died Wednesday, July 13, 1966, at Hyattsville Nursing Home, Hyattsville, MD, where he had lived for the past six months.
A former resident of Meadville and Orlando, FL, Mr. Higby was born at Townville October 15, 1875, a son of Reuben P. and Margaret Lewis Higby and married Della A. Custead August 13, 1902.
He attended the Methodist Church at Orlando and was a member of Stone Methodist Church, Meadville, where he served as a treasurer for about 25 years. While in Meadville, he was elected outstanding layman of the Methodist Church.
He was a member of Meadville Kiwanis Club, Meadville Chamber of Commerce and Cusewago Lodge IOOF. Before coming to Meadville in 1903, he served as superintendent of a tannery at Richwood, WV.
A graduate of Edinboro State Normal in 1900, he taught school for a few years at Charendon. He served as secretary-treasurer of the local tool company until his retirement in 1947.
Surviving, in addition to his widow, are a daughter, Mrs. H. E. (Ruth) Haver of Hyattsville; a son, Jesse D. Higby of Buffalo; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Greendale Cemetery.
