David Bruce Casner, 61, formerly of Guys Mills, passed away Wednesday, January 19, 2011. He was born in Cheyenne, Wyoming on July 16, 1949 a son of Ernie and Elvira Casner. He graduated from East High School in Cheyenne in 1968 and was a member of the first class of graduates who started at the opening of East High.
After graduation, David went on to Laramie County Community College for one semester. While attending college, he worked for Koch Marketing where he soon became the manager. His employment with Koch required him to live in Colorado, South Dakota and Wyoming. David then moved to Pennsylvania where he eventually met and married his wife, Ann on February 28, 1981.
David had several jobs over the years. He worked as a houseparent for United Community Independence Programs, for Crawford County Weatherization and as a Sunday only paper carrier in the Hickernell and Venango areas. When delivering papers, he always carried dog biscuits for the canine friends on his route. He lived in Pennsylvania until his illness forced him to move to Ohio.
David always called Wyoming home and always talked about how he missed it. Anyone who knew David would know that he loved fishing and was quite a "rock hound" and fossil hunter. He loved both history and science fiction and was an avid reader.
He wasn't much of a builder or repairman, but he could really tell a story. Those who knew him would remember "Annabelle Lee" or "Having Lunch with Cisco."
He loved children and they loved him. He liked them around to tell his stories to, to untangle a fishing line, to help with homework, to make a project or to write a poem. He liked driving others to places they wanted to go.
That was David. Anyone that knew him will smile and remember the "Big Red Dog and Grandma" story. He will be sadly missed.
David is survived by his wife of nearly 30 years, Ann of Titusville; a step-son, Jerry Davis and his wife Kelli of Titusville; his parents, Ernie and Elvira Casner of Cheyenne, WY; three brothers, Craig of Anchorage, AK, Douglas and Kerry both of Cheyenne and a nephew, Michael in Colorado.
A memorial service will be planned for this spring in Wyoming.
