David J. Klingener, 57, of Deerfield, MA, died Thursday, July 6, 1995, at his home.
He was born in Meadville, September 4, 1937, a son of John and Ruth Klingener.
While in high school, his research on garter snakes resulted in a scientific paper published in the journal, Herpetologica.
He attended Western Reserve Academy in Hudson, OH. After graduation, he attended Swarthmore College where he received his bachelor's degree. He received his master's degree and doctorate degrees from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor.
In 1964, he joined the faculty of the University of Massachuetts in Amherst as a professor of biology. He was curator of the university's collection of bird and mammals.
He was a member of many professional societies.
Survivors include his mother, Ruth Klingener of Meadville; two daughters, Alice Klingener of St. Paul, MN and Nancy Klingener of Key West, FL; a son, David Klingener of Deerfield, MA; and a brother, Frederick Klingener of Roxbury, CT.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Greendale Cemetery.
