David L. Crum

February 3, 1896 — December 31, 1956

David L. Crum, retired supervisor of vocational agriculture education in Crawford County, died at his home Saturday, at the age of 79.

Mr. Crum retired December 31, 1956, after 32 years and 11 months of service to the vocational education field in the county.

A 1924 graduate of the Pennsylvania State University with degrees in horticulture and vocational agriculture, he taught at Springs Mills for one semester then went to Linesville where he taught vocational agriculture for three years.

Following World War II, he was responsible for establishing in Crawford County the veterans-on-farms training program in the state.  He also organized a young farmers group which later developed into Pennsylvania Young Farmers Assn.

After his retirement, he operated and grew a Christmas tree nursery named Hemlock Glade Nursery.

A member of Stone United Methodist Church, he served for a number of years as superintendent of the church's Sunday School.  He was a past president of Meadville Lions Club and a member of Meadville Masonic Lodge 408.

Born in Bridgeville, February 3, 1896, he was a son of John and Dorothy Burger Crum and was a graduate of Bridgeville High School.

While serving in World War I, he was wounded in France.  He was a member of Charles N. Stafford American Legion Post.

He married Tamazine Kersteter June 6, 1924.  He died in 1971.

Survivors include two dauhgters, Mrs. Tamazine Miller of State College and Mrs. Thomas (Sylvia) Anderson of Bowling Green; a son, David L Crum, Jr. of Bethel Park; a sister, Mrs. Robert (Dorothy) Hughan of Homestead, FL; a brother, Park Crum of Bridgeville and nine grandchildren.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Greendale Cemetery.
