David (Davy) LaVerne Durfee, III, 32, of Meadville, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, September 13, 2015.
He was born April 8, 1983 in Meadville, the son of David LaVerne Durfee, Jr. and Susan Marie Larson.
Davy graduated from Meadville High School, having also attended Calvary Baptist Christian Academy and Saegertown Middle School.
He was employed by New Eagle Corporation and Excellent Tool in Meadville as well as Hi-Tech Machining & Engineering in Tucson, AZ. Davy was well respected by coworkers and known for his outstanding work ethic and willingness to do whatever it took to get the job done. Davy was a self-taught CNC programmer. He was most excited about his job when it involved a challenging project.
Davy had a very adventuresome spirit which he channeled through his many travels. During his life, he explored more than 26 countries, covering 5 different continents. His preference was to travel off the beaten path in order to fully experience the true culture of each area. With his photographic eye, he was able to capture the beauty of the region. He became fluent in Spanish and during his travels was able to teach language in places such as South America. During his time in Cambodia, he enjoyed volunteering at an orphanage. Davy was a very talented soccer player in the local youth soccer league. He also participated in Little League Baseball and was selected as an All Star. In his early teens, Davy became an enthusiastic skateboarder which continued throughout his adult life. He was an avid reader and especially enjoyed the classics. He loved music and was known in the Meadville area for organizing bands and DJing. He had a great sense of humor that was contagious. Davy loved spending time with his family and close friends. He was loved by all!
Survivors, all of Meadville, include his father, David L. Durfee, Jr. and his wife Norma; his mother, Susan M. Larson and her husband Charles; three sisters, DeAnna Runyan and her husband Jason, Devon Bevacqua and her husband Mark, and Danielle Coppola; three nieces Madison, Grace, and Savannah Runyan; a nephew, Liam Coppola; paternal grandfather, David L. Durfee, Sr. and his wife Anja; maternal grandmother, Mavis Foust; and numerous uncles, aunts, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Ellen Durfee; maternal grandfather, Jack Foust, both of Meadville; and maternal great-grandparents, John and Pearl Banks of Conneaut Lake.
Calling hours will be Friday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville. The funeral service will be Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Dennis Durfee, uncle, officiating.
Interment will be in Greendale Cemetery.
