David P. Shafer, 54, of 25715 Swift Hill Rd., Cambridge Springs, died Friday, October 10, 2003 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh following an extended illness.
He was born November 4, 1948 in Geneva, a son of the late Howard J. and I. Jean Seaman Shafer. He married Joyce A. Salhoff January 29, 1972 and she survives.
He attended Saegertown High School and worked at Finks Tire Company, Cambridge Springs, B & J Forging, Springboro, the former Avtex, Meadville, and Asplundh in Erie until 1988. He enjoyed going to auctions, tinkering around the farm, hunting, and spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of 31 years, include 4 daughters, Heather A. Young and her husband Matthew of Cambridge Springs; Maryjane Shafer and her companion Eric Davison; Holly M. Shafer; and Cassandra J. Shafer, all at home; 2 grandsons, Jonathan and Kenneth Young; 3 brothers, Thomas T. Shafer and his wife Janice of Meadville; John R. Shafer and his wife Connie of Venango; and David E. (Shorty) Shafer and his wife Beth of Meadville; 3 sisters, Elsie Andrezjczak of Girard; Doris Sherred and her husband Red of Venango; and Margie Shafer and her companion Brian Gallagher of Palmdale, CA; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Shafer; a sister, Marianne Shafer Sheldon; and a nephew.
Calling hours will be Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville.
A funeral service will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Eric Leonard, Pastor of New Richmond United Methodist Church officiating.
The family suggests memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
