David S.P. Conner, 94, of 1237 Carmont Dr., Meadville, died Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at Meadville Medical Center following a period of declining health.
He was born in Philadelphia March 16, 1914, a son of the late Edward and Abbie May Davis Conner. He had been married to Ruth Lee Cook and subsequently married Dorothy Fix July 17, 1959 and she preceded him in December 28, 2007.
David was a graduate of the Episcopal Academy, Philadelphia and a 1937 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II and was discharged with the rank of Lieutenant Commander. He began his employment with Hearst Newspapers and subsequently worked for Talon, Inc., retiring in 1982 as vice president of International operations. He lived in Switzerland for 5 years as vice president of European operations, 16 years in St. Catherines, Ontario as vice president, and was general manager of Lightning Fastener Ltd. for Talon.
A member of First Presbyterian Church, he was a member of the Meadville Noontime Rotary Club, Meadville Roundtable, The Literary Union, member and former vice president of the Crawford County Historical Society, former chairman of the French Creek Boy Scout District Committee, past president of the St. Catherines, Ont. Chamber of Commerce and the St. Catherines United Way.
Survivors include two sons, Dr. David S.P. Conner and his wife Dr. Andrea Flieder of Huntington, Long Island, NY and Edward C.G. Conner and his wife Andrea of Cary, NC; five grandchildren, Phillip, Sean, Benjamin, and Claire Conner and Carol Tucker; and nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Tamsin Conner; a brother, Alan B. Conner; a half-brother, Edmund Conner, and a granddaughter, Katherine O’Keeffe.
Calling hours will be Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville where a funeral service will follow at 4:00 p.m. with the Rev. Brian K. Jensen, Pastor of First Presbyterian Church officiating.
Interment will be in South Laurel Hill Cemetery, Philadelphia.
The family suggests memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 890 Liberty St., Meadville, PA 16335 or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
