Della A. Higby

January 23, 1902 — August 9, 1968

Mrs. Della A. Higby, 88, formerly of Meadville and Orlando, FL, died Friday, August 9, 1968, at Washington Sanitarium and Hospital in Tacoma Park, MD, following a stroke she suffered 10 days ago.  She had been a resident of the Hyattsville Nursing Home in Hyattsville, MD, for the past two years.

She was born in West Mead Township, Crawford County on January 23, 1902, a daughter of Oliver W. and Minerva Hamilton Custead.  She was the widow of David B. Higby, former secretary-treasurer of Channellock, who died in July 1966.  They were married August 13, 1902.

Mrs. Higby was a member of Stone United Methodist Church for 54 years and a member of its Women's Society of Christian Service and Beacon of Light Class.  She was a former member of Meadville Woman's Club in its garden division.  She attended Edinboro State Normal School in Edinboro and taught school during her early years.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. H. E. (Ruth) Haver of Hyattsville; one son, Jesse D. Higby of Buffalo; one sister, Mrs. George (Netta) Freyermuth of Fredonia; one brother, Homer Custead of Interlachen, FL; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Greendale Cemetery.
