Delmar C. Hites

Delmar C. Hites, 79, of Meadville, passed away Monday, March 17, 2014 at the Crawford County Care Center surrounded by his loving family.

He was born May 2, 1934 in Spring Township, Crawford County, a son of Ira Francis and Ella Nancy Joslin Hites.  He married Carrol A. Kimple July 21, 1977 and she survives.

Delmar was a 1952 graduate of Conneaut Valley High School.  He was employed in the maintenance department at Franklin Regional Medical Center for 10 years.  He previously worked in the maintenance department at Avtex from 1972 to 1985 and also assisted his brother’s business in television repair.

Delmar attended Harmonsburg United Methodist Church and enjoyed woodworking.  He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and was “the best Pop in the world.”

Survivors, in addition to his loving wife Carrol of 36 years, include four children, Delmar C. Hites, Jr. and his wife Deborah of Lorain, OH, Debra Lee and her husband Douglas of Meadville, David Turner and his wife Theresa of Stewartstown, and Douglas Turner and his companion Reva VanderVeen of Meadville; seven grandchildren, Carrie Symes and her husband Jeremy, Nicholas Turner and his wife Katherine, Jeffrey Turner and his wife Melissa, Rebecca Ruff and her husband Peter, Gregory Turner and his wife Ashley, Thomas Turner, and Steven Turner; seven great-grandchildren, Carson and Ryan Ruff, Cole and Maci Turner, Joclyn and Bella Symes, and Addilyn Turner; two sisters, Edna McClinton of Conneautville and Joyce Catalano of Meadville; a brother, Everett Hites of Albion; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Lynn Hites; a brother, Walter Hites; and a sister, Virginia Armagost.

Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville.

The funeral service will be Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Dennis Lawton, Pastor of Harmonsburg United Methodist Church, officiating.

Entombment will be in St. Brigid Cemetery.

The family suggests memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
