Dolores M. Monore

September 14, 1939 — March 11, 2012

Dolores (Dee) M Monroe 72 of Rock Hill, SC and formerly of Conneaut Lake went home to her savior after a lengthy illness on March 11, 2012.

Born September 14, 1939 in Charleroi, PA she was the daughter of Andrew and Hermina Kornosky Gernot. She married James Monroe of Ford City, PA on October 26, 1963. Her beloved husband preceded her in death July 29, 2001.

Dee was a 1960 graduate of Mercy School of Nursing in Pittsburgh, PA. She spent a large portion of her life helping others in various nursing positions including working in the emergency room in Washington, DC.

She was a longtime member of Our Lady Queen of the Americas Church before moving to South Carolina to be close to her family. While a member OLQA she was an original member of Sonshine, a local folk group that sang at the church on Sunday’s. While a member of the group she recorded several albums. She was a published songwriter as well as a musician playing guitar, violin and piano.

Dee enjoyed art in many forms and was an accomplished painter. She was a local volunteer in South Carolina for the Veterans Administration. She enjoyed counseling veterans and helping service members succeed after their service to our nation. She enjoyed her time as member of the local Red Hat Society participating in many local events. She was her happiest while spending time with her only granddaughter Allison on their weekly lunches at Olive Garden.

Survivors include her son William, his wife Mary and granddaughter Allison of Rock Hill, SC, her brother Richard Gernot of Lakeland, FL and her beloved dog Ben.

She was preceded in death by her parents as well as several aunts and uncles.

Calling hours will be Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 at Waid-Coleman Funeral Home, Inc., 12422 Conneaut Lake Rd., Conneaut Lake with a Scripture Prayer Service at 3:30 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Our Lady Queen of the Americas Church, 155 S. Ninth Street, Conneaut Lake with Fr. Steve Anderson, celebrant.

Interment will be in Our Lady Queen of the Americas Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the Crawford County Humane Society, 11012 Kennedy Hill Road, Meadville, PA 16335 or Our Lady Queen of the Americas Church, P.O. Box 110, Conneaut Lake, PA 16316.
