Donald A. Hornstein, 68, of Conneaut Lake, passed away Sunday, June 17, 2018 at his residence surrounded by his loving family following an 8 ½ month courageous battle with Pancreatic Cancer.
He was born March 13, 1950 in Meadville, a son of the late Donald O. and Helen Kelyman Hornstein. He married Linda Shilling December 21, 1979 and she survives.
Don was a 1968 graduate of Linesville-Conneaut-Summit High School and a 1972 graduate of Edinboro University. He worked at Channellock for 38 years, retiring in 2012 as vice president of Human Resources and served on the board of directors from December 1986 to October 2017.
Don was a member of the Meadville Medical Center board of directors from 1993 to 2001, member of the Crawford County Drug and Alcohol Executive Commission for five years, member of the Meadville Western Crawford County Chamber of Commerce board of directors for 7 years, and was former chairman of the Crawford Health Plan.
He coached his sons in the Summit Township Little League Baseball for nine years, was president of the Linesville Little Gridders for two years and coached for three years, and was a former Linesville Junior High basketball coach. Don loved to exercise, going to the Body Firm daily until his diagnosis. He loved being a hobby farmer, gardening, and was a diehard Cleveland sports fan. He enjoyed boating on Conneaut Lake for over 40 years and especially loved being with his family and friends and loved making people laugh.
Survivors, in addition to his loving wife Linda, include two sons, Alan Hornstein and his wife Sabrina of Guys Mills and Ryan Hornstein and his wife Adrienne of Spotsylvania, VA; three grandchildren, Nathan, Jack and Brynn and Kinley Dawn expected in July; a sister, Karen Hopkins of Saegertown; a brother, K. Dale Hornstein and his wife Sharon of Maryland; and aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Thursday, June 21st from 4 to 7 p.m. at WAID-COLEMAN FUNRAL HOME, 12422 CONNEAUT LAKE RD., CONNEAUT LAKE where a memorial service will follow at 7:00 p.m. with the Rev. James Callender, Pastor of First Church of God Cambridge Springs, officiating.
