Donald H. Boyd

Donald H. Boyd, 83, of Meadville, died Wednesday, May 6, 2009 at Hamot Medical Center, Erie.

He was born in Guys Mills April 3, 1926, a son of the late Howard and Florence Shaffer Boyd.  He married Anna Mae Heald November 27, 1949.

A 1945 graduate of Randolph High School, he was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II, having served in the Pacific Theater of Operations.  Don was employed by Alltel for 40 years, having worked in installation and repair and retiring in 1988 as store keeper.  He was a member of Meadville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006, Townville American Legion Post 994, and the National Rifle Association.  Don enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, bowling, golfing, gardening, and playing horse shoes.

Survivors, in addition to his wife Anna Mae of 59 years, include a daughter, Linda Stright and her husband Jim of Columbia, MD; a son, William H. Boyd of Gulf Breeze, FL and Meadville and his companion, J.R. Ruth of Gulf Breeze, FL; 3 sisters, Eloise Kosanovic of Indiana, PA, Carolyn Miller and her husband Wilford of Guys Mills, and Jean Rumsey and her husband Gene of Meadville; 4 brothers, John Boyd of Townville, Russell Boyd and his wife Virginia of Guys Mills, Dale Boyd and his wife Karol of Sanford, NC, and David Boyd and his wife Marilyn of Meadville; 2 grandchildren, Megan Waller and her husband Dale of Elizabeth and Travis Stright of Columbia, MD; his former daughter-in-law, Linda Boyd and her husband Rick of Phoenix, AZ; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Mitchell Kosanovic and a sister-in-law, Laura Boyd.

Calling hours are today (Friday) from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville.

The funeral and committal service will be Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. David Coddington, Pastor of the United Evangelical Free Church of Guys Mills officiating and military honors provided by Meadville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006.

Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
