Donald I. Hincken

Donald I. Hincken, 96, a resident of Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community, died there Monday, August 8, 2011.

He was born February 7, 1915 in Philadelphia, a son of Robert and Emily Aldinger Hincken.  He married Bette Jane Wieland July 20, 1946 and she preceded him in death April 11, 2007.

Don was raised in Clarion and graduated from Clarion High School and was a 1935 graduate of the former Clarion State Teacher's College (now Clarion University).  For several years, he worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps. and subsequently came to Meadville and went to work for the American Viscose Corp. where he met his wife.  He retired from FMC (former American Viscose) January 1, 1978.

Following retirement, Don and Bette volunteered for disaster relief for the American Red Cross, serving many who lost their homes due to flooding and tornados.  He also worked for the Bay Hill Golf Tournament, Orlando, FL for 15 years.  He was a member and past master of Masonic Lodge 408.  Don and Bette wintered in Apopka, FL, moving there permanently in 2003 until Bette's death when Don returned to Meadville and resided at Wesbury.

Survivors include three daughters, Jane Getz and her husband Tom of Meadville, Emily Emigh and her husband Rob of Gibsonia, and Bobbie McBride and her husband Curt of Meadville; three grandchildren, Christopher (C.J) McBride, Katie Cronin, and Brian Emigh; two step-grandchildren, Mark Getz and Cathy Smith; two great-grandchildren, Cooper and Evan Cronin; three step-great-grandchildren, Lucy and Kasey Smith and Max Getz; a great-grandchild, Stella, due in September; and one nephew.

Services are private and at the convenience of the family.

Interment will be in Greendale Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville.
