Donald L. Owens

Donald L. Owens, 80, of 9483 McFadden Rd., Guys Mills, died Sunday June 12, 2005 at the Crawford County Care Center.

He was born in New Lebanon, PA November 4, 1924 a son of John William and Avis Crispin Owens.  He married Florence Reed May 14, 1945 and she survives.

He owned and operated with his wife Owens Mt. Hope General Store for 24 years.  He also sold and delivered propane while operating the store.  Previously he had worked at Walker’s Garage in Sandy Lake and Reznor Furnace in Mercer.

He was a veteran of World War II with the US Army.  He was a member of Mt. Hope United Methodist Church, Lake Masonic Lodge #434 of Sandy Lake and Coudersport Consistory.  He enjoyed fishing, camping and traveling.

Survivors, in addition to his wife of 60 years, include: three daughters, Nancy Brunot and her husband Roger of Frenchtown, Carol McGowan and her husband Robert of Mt. Hope and Donna Hunter and her husband Michael of Mt. Hope; one son, Donald W. Owens and Stephanie Bochy of Mt. Hope; one brother, Robert Owens of Eustace, FL; eight grandchildren, Mark and Michael Brunot, Connie Crawford, Kristen McGowan, Sean Hunter, Michelle Buser, Eric and Alan Owens and five great grandchildren, Brennan, Caiden, Chloe, Jake and Avery.

He was preceded in death by two infant grandchildren, Brian and Laurie; three brothers, Chuck Owens, James Owens and Clint Owens and three sisters, Ruth Loper, Bertha Stowe and Mabel Hill.

Calling hours will be Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with a Masonic Service at 9 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut St., Meadville, PA 16335.

The funeral and committal service with military honors will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Donald Russell, Pastor of Mt. Hope United Methodist Church, officiating.

Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
