Donald R. Houck, 79, of Meadville and a resident of the Crawford County Care Center, died there Wednesday, October 23, 2013.
He was born in Vernon Twp., March 16, 1934 a son of Charles W. and Pearl Reitze Houck. He married Shirley Eckert August 1, 1953 and she preceded him in death May 5, 2008.
He was a 1953 graduate of Meadville High School and operated a dairy farm in Vernon Twp. until 1964. He also was a truck driver for Dad’s Products (now Ainsworth Pet Nutrition) for 31 years.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, member and Past Master of Crawford Masonic Lodge #234, Scottish Rite Bodies of Erie, Zem Zem Shrine Temple of Erie, Crawford County Shrine Club, Kismet Grotto and Elks Lodge #219. He enjoyed bowling and spending many winters in N. Ft. Myers, FL.
He is survived by two daughters, Donna J. Waid and her husband Morris of Meadville and Cindy L. Flaugh and her husband Jack of Meadville; two sons, Richard D. Houck and his wife Anna Marie of Meadville and Gerald L. Houck and his wife Ida of Meadville; seven grandchildren, Robin DeWalt, Charles D. Houck, Thomas J. Houck, Allison Marie Houck, Kristin Stayer, Amy Terrell and Danielle Houck; one great granddaughter, Adalee DeWalt; a sister, Janet Wilcox and her husband Wes of Sugar Grove and several nieces and nephews and step grandchildren and step great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Bernice L. Weaver, Katherine Swanson and Shirley Merritt.
Calling hours will be Sunday from 4-7 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville with a Masonic Service at 7 p.m. Additional calling hour will be Monday from 10-11 a.m. at the funeral home with the funeral service to follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Larry Peters, Assoc. Pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, officiating.
Interment will be in Greendale Cemetery.
