Donald Robert Smock

Donald Robert Smock, 70 of 124 Lake Becky Road, Mountain Rest, SC 29664 died Thursday, April 3, 2008 at Greenville Memorial Hospital, Greenville, SC.

He was born in Meadville August 20, 1937, he was the son of Paul Wayne Smock, Sr. and Sarah Evelyn McKelvey Smock.  He married Janet Michael Gillespie Smock and she survives.

He was a 1955 graduate of Meadville High School.  He was retired from the US Army, having served in the Vietnam War.  He was awarded one Silver Star, two Bronze Stars, the Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry.  He was a member of the Lewis E. Blanchett American Legion Post #124, the Disabled American Veterans and was of the Methodist faith.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, Janet, include: four step-sons, Robert Gillespie and his wife, Yvonne of Westminster, SC, David Garcia, Vic Garcia and Ron Garcia all of Oklahoma; a step-daughter, Dallas Shirley and her husband Roger of Mountain Rest, SC; a brother, Richard Smock of Cochranton, a sister, Barbara McCoy of Meadville; two step-grandchildren, one step-great grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Paul W. Smock, Jr., Lewis Smock and Ronald Smock and a sister, Sandra Manoco.

Calling hour will be Thursday from 2-3 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville.

Graveside funeral services with military honors will follow at 3:30 p.m. in Greendale Cemetery with the Rev. Gerald Murphy, officiating.
