Donald S. Martin, 85, of Saegertown, died Monday, April 4, 2011 at Meadville Medical Center.
He was born February 19, 1926 in Cleveland, OH, a son of James E. and Lula Murdoch Martin. He married Jean Marie Price September 15, 1950.
Don was a 1944 graduate of Meadville High School and attended the former Alliance College, Cambridge Springs and Allegheny College. He was a Veteran of World War II with the U.S. Army serving from 1944 to 1946 and served in General George Patton's 3rd Army in the European Theater of Operations.
Don was employed as an over the road truck driver, at Westinghouse for several years, and subsequently as a Prudential Life Insurance Agent in Meadville for 22 years, retiring in 1981.
He was a member of Saegertown United Methodist Church, Meadville Masonic Lodge 408, Crawford County Shrine Club, Zem Zem Shrine Temple, Erie, Meadville Elks Lodge 219, Saegertown American Legion Post 205, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006, Meadville.
Don enjoyed and collected automobiles, enjoyed traveling and camping and spending many winters in Florida.
Survivors, in addition to his loving wife Jean of 60 years, include four children, James Martin and his wife Ronda of Lincolnton, NC, David L. Martin and his wife Kim of Saegertown, Paul S. Martin and his companion Linda Greene of Meadville, and Donna J. Kozubal and her husband Tom of Meadville; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Lucille Martin of Conneaut Lake; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Bruce Martin.
Calling hours will be today (Wednesday) from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville where a Masonic service will be at 6:45 p.m.
The funeral service will be Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at Saegertown United Methodist Church, 620 Euclid Ave., Saegertown with the Rev. Kenneth Custer, Pastor officiating.
Interment will be in Greendale Cemetery with military honors provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006, Meadville.
