Donald W. Crandall

Donald W. Crandall, 77, of Meadville died Tuesday, November 05, 2013 at Meadville Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.

He was born December 13, 1935 in Olean, NY a son of Merle T. and Agnes Louise Bauer Crandall.  He married Geraldine Tartaglia July 16, 1960 and she survives.

He was a graduate of Emporium High School and then served in the US Air Force from 1954-1958.  He then received his Bachelor’s degree from Penn State University.  He worked for the Social Security Administration first in Philadelphia, then Dover, DE, Stanton, VA, Cambridge, MD and then moved to Meadville in 1976 to manage the Meadville office.  He retired in 1996.

He was a life member of the Vernon Central Hose Co. and the Penn State Alumni Assoc., member of the Taylor Hose Co., Charles N. Stafford American Legion Post #111 and Elks Lodge #219.  He served on several boards in the area including, Active Aging and the Crawford County Care Center.  He was an avid Penn State fan and loved playing golf, participating in leagues at Whispering Pines Golf Course.

Survivors, in addition to his wife Geraldine of 53 years, include: four children, Cynthia D. Prall of Meadville, Joseph B. Crandall of Oxford, NC, John C. Crandall of Oahu, HI and Amy K. Shiner of Meadville; eight grandchildren, Jeremy Prall, Courtney Prall, Jacob Prall, John Crandall Jr., Jennifer Cox, Samantha Shiner, Holden Shiner and Brandon Shiner; a great grandchild on the way; a sister, Kay Petrazio and her husband Fred, nieces, nephews and a good friend of the family, John L. Shiner of Conneaut Lake.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Vahue and her husband Howard.

Calling hours will be Thursday from 5-8 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville.

The funeral service will be Friday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Fr. Matthew Kujawinski, Pastor of St. Agatha Church, officiating.
