Donald W. Wimer, 86, passed away peacefully on September 19, 2024. Donald was born to Marie (Gibson) and Roy Wimer Sr. on December 5, 1937 in Slippery Rock, PA. Donald graduated high school from Lakeview High School before joining the United States Air Force.
Donald grew up in the United Presbyterian Church, being baptized in 1951. When he joined the Air Force after high school, he studied to become an Air Craft Support Mechanic, eventually serving in Greenland, Norway, Sweden, and Gardermoen as a support mechanic. After leaving the military in 1959, he began working at the Sandy Lake Implement, where he was employed for six years. It was during his time here that he married the love of his life, Berdella Rickert, on September 16, 1961. Donald and Berdella would go on to adopt two children, Ken and Paulla, and have one child, Eric, to complete their family. Donald worked as a mechanic at GTI Corp. in Hadley and Pittsburgh Plate Glass Plant in Meadville before earning a teaching certificate to teach mechanics at Meadville Vocational School. He then went on to own and operate his own business with Berdella, eventually selling Wimer Fuel Injection to their son, Ken.
Donald enjoyed buying and repairing old tractors. He would farm the family’s mini farm with Berdella and their children, raising pigs, chicken, and beef for the family. Donald grew an annual vegetable garden as well to help feed his family. He was passionate about his thrills, riding motorcycles and owning and driving his Triumph Sports Car. Donald enjoyed hunting and fishing, taking trips to West Virginia, Canada, and even Nova Scotia. Donald loved spending time with his family especially their sightseeing trips in the RV with Berdella and their children.
Donald is survived by his wife, Berdella (Rickert) Wimer, and their children Kenneth (SuzAnne) Wimer, Paulla (John) Collar, and Eric (Karina) Wimer. He also leaves behind his grandchildren Joseph, Ashley, Jessica, Kristen, and Grant to cherish his memory as well as ten great-grandchildren. Donald will be remembered by his siblings Roy Wimer Jr., and David Wimer.
Donald is preceded in death by his parents, Roy Wimer Sr. and Marie (Gibson) Wimer; his sister, Patricia Ann Fitzgerald; and his granddaughter, Amber.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Rose and Black Funeral Home and Crematory Inc. 99 Franklin St. Stoneboro, PA 16153. Services will be private.
