Dorcas B. Minick, 91, of Durham, NC and formerly of Meadville, passed away Sunday, November 6, 2016 at Brookshire Senior Living Center, Hillsborough, NC surrounded by her loving family. She was born February 5, 1925 in South Connellsville, PA, a daughter of Barnett and Bessie Sleighter Burkhardt. Dorcas was a 1945 graduate of Allegheny College where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and a minor in English. While at Allegheny, she was a member of the Allegheny Singers and Alpha Xi Delta sorority. Dorcas taught biology at Dunbar Township High School in Leisenring, PA for three years and subsequently was an english teacher at Meadville High School for 16 years, retiring in 1987. A member of St. Pauls Reformed Church, Dorcas taught Sunday School for many years, was a former Sunday School superintendent and former member of the church board, serving as president and vice president. For the past ten years she attended the Genesis United Methodist Church in Cary, NC. Dorcas was a member for over 50 years of Order of Eastern Star, Delta Kappa Gamma honorary teachers society, Allegheny College Choir, Daughters of the American Revolution, Hayfield Grange #800, and the Thesaurus and Philo Mathesian Clubs in Meadville. She enjoyed bluebirds, crocheting, and especially singing. Dorcas was a descendant of Colonel William Crawford for whom Crawford County is named. Survivors include two sons, Daniel C. Minick of Meadville and Robert S. Minick and his wife Melvalee of Durham, NC; a daughter, Heidi Minick Starke and her husband David of Chesterland, OH; three grandsons, William Minick, Ryan Minick, and Michael Starke; three great-grandchildren, Amelia Minick, Linus Starke and Matthew Minick; a nephew, Barney Knorr, a niece, Carolyn Knorr Stephens and great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Mark Minick; a brother, Robert C. Burkhardt; a sister, Emaruth Burkhardt Knorr; a niece, Gwendolyn Burkholder; and a nephew, Tom Burkhardt. The memorial service will be Saturday, July 8th at 10 a.m. at the ROBERT W.
