Doris Elizabeth Tessmer

June 22, 1913 — March 13, 2003

Doris Elizabeth Tessmer, 89, a resident of Wesbury United Methodist Community since 1995, died Thursday, March 13, 2003 at the Meadville Medical Center after a four-month illness.

She was born in Cranesville, June 22, 1913, a daughter of Tudor & Ocie Rogers Young.  She married Ernest Fred Tessmer, September 22, 1937, and he preceded her in death July 6, 1990.

She retired from teaching, having been employed for 30 yrs., in the Meadville School System.

She was a graduate of Edinboro State Teachers College with a Bachelor’s degree in Education.  She was a member and past president of the Meadville Business & Professional Women, was a sports enthusiast, and had been elected to the Crawford County Women’s Bowling Assn. Hall of Fame.

Survivors include a son, Ernest Virgil Tessmer, and his wife Esther, of Meadville; two brothers, Dr. Harold Young and his wife Joanne of Waterford and Maj. Virgil Young, USAF Ret., of Conneautville; two grandchildren, Jay Weldon Tessmer and Tanya Leigh Tessmer and one great grandchild.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Esther Hartman Payne, and a brother, Willard Young.

Calling hours will be Saturday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville.  The funeral and committal service will be Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Ellen Rezek, Chaplain of Wesbury United Methodist Community, officiating.

Burial will be in Cochranton Cemetery.

The family suggests memorials may be made to any charity of the donor’s choice.
