Doris Jane Egyud of Conneaut Lake died on Thursday, March 8, 2018 at Rolling Fields Elder Care Community in Conneautville. Doris was born in Oakland, CA on October 12, 1932 to Charlotte June Sample Billings and Robert E. Lee Billings. Her twin sister, Beverly Ann Billings, died shortly after birth. Doris was raised in Uniontown, PA by her mother and step-father, Carroll J. Madore. She graduated from Uniontown High School in 1951. Doris met her future husband, Ralph D. Egyud, Sr., while they were doing summer theatre. They married on August 26, 1951 while Ralph was serving in the US Navy. After Ralph graduated from the University of Dayton (OH) in 1959, the Egyuds moved to Long Island, NY where they lived until 1978. They moved to Monaca in Beaver County, PA to be closer to family, with a brief stint in New Stanton. In 1988 they built a home in Conneaut Lake, and moved to another home there in 2006. Ralph, Sr. passed away that July. Doris was active all her life as a church pianist, choir director and soloist, serving most recently with the loving family at Hartstown Presbyterian Church. She was also pianist for Rundells Grange, the former Lakeland Grange where she also served as Lecturer, and Crawford County Pomona Grange. She was a member of the Conneaut Lake Historical Society where she was a docent for the museum; and the Conneaut Lake Lions Club, where she was the first female member and served a term as King Lion. She served as a board member and chairman of the Conneaut Lake unit of the Salvation Army. Doris traveled to various area nursing homes to conduct monthly hymn sings. She organized a monthly birthday party for the residents of the Crawford County Care Center, making sure that there was a card with a $5 bill for each resident who had a birthday. She founded several nursing home chapters of the Red Hat Society. Doris was an active Republican, serving as committeewoman and poll watcher for Sadsbury Township, and providing music for county Republican gatherings. She was a member of the former Conneaut Lake Rebekah lodge. For many years Doris wrote a weekly column for the Meadville Tribune featuring interviews of people from the Lakeland community, and highlighting the annual Snowball Pageant contestants. She was a recipient of the Kiwanis Club Community Service award. Doris was known for her colorful outfits; her generosity; her outgoing personality; her smile; her precious shih-tzus, Miss April and Miss Melody; and her red Firebird with the "DORIS E" license plate, which she let her granddaughter drive to her Junior and Senior proms. She is survived by her sons, Ralph David Egyud, Jr. (Susan) of Conneaut Lake, and James Carroll Egyud (Karen) of Stafford, VA; her grandson David (Joel) of Reserve Township, Pittsburgh, and her great-granddaughter, Nadia Rose; her granddaughter Rebecca Egyud of Phoenix, AZ; many cousins; and a special cousin, John Madore of North Huntingdon. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband and mother; her father and step-father; and many aunts and uncles and cousins, including her "second parents" Clara and Roy Leighty. The family is grateful for the love and care that Doris received from the staff at Juniper Village in Meadville, and especially at Rolling Fields Elder Care Community during her illness, incapacitation and passing. Their heartfelt affection for Doris was a comfort, and is deeply appreciated. Friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Saturday at WAID-COLEMAN FUNERAL HOME, 12422 CONNEAUT LAKE RD., CONNEAUT LAKE.
