Dorothea E. Bates

Dorothea E. Bates, 94, formerly of Alden Street, Meadville and a resident of Wesbury United Methodist Community, died there, Monday, August 04, 2014.

She was born in Meadville January 1, 1920 a daughter of Walter W. and Mildred Stewart Ehrgott.  She married B. Carl Bates March 9, 1946 and he preceded her in death March 29, 1991.

She was a 1938 graduate of Meadville High School and was a member of Emmanuel Community Church.  She was the owner and operator of the Crawford County Credit Bureau for 21 years retiring in 1971 and had previously worked as an operator for 6 years for the former Meadville Telephone Co.

She is survived by several cousins including Mary Ann Skiff and her husband John of Transfer and was preceded in death by her husband, parents and a step-daughter, Beverly Bates.

Graveside services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Huber Cemetery, Dutch Hill Road, Meadville with the Rev. Dr. Timothy Solomon, Pastor of Emmanuel Community Church, officiating.

The family suggests memorials be made to Emmanuel Community Church, 30 N. Park Ave., Meadville, PA 16335 or a charity of the donor’s choice.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville.
