Miss Dorothea Kerr of Meadville, a Meadville High School teacher since about 1928, died at Woman's Hospital in Pittsburgh Monday, February 29, 1960, after an illness of several months.
She had been a patient at the hospital since November 16.
Miss Kerr, who lived in Meadville all her life, was a graduate of Meadville High School and Allegheny College, class of 1921. She also received her master's degree in education from Allegheny.
Miss Kerr first taught in Youngsville before joining the Meadville faculty. She taught at Third District School before being transferred to the high school in about 1928. Biology was one of the first subjects she taught before switching to English. She taught before switching to English. She taught school continuously until September of 1959.
Her main interests outside school were music, art and the college.
Miss Kerr was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority Alumna. She was well known in art circles in this area with art and gardening her hobbies. She was a member of Meadville Garden Club. She also sang in Meadville churches in previous years and was active as a sponsor of Junior Red Cross for a number of years. She was a member of the Pennsylvania State Education Assn.
She was born in Meadville, a daughter of John Henry and Carrie Bearse Kerr.
Survivors include a brother, Norwood W. of Meadville.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Greendale Cemetery.
