Dorothy A. Saletra

Dorothy A. Saletra, 84, of Conneaut Lake, died Friday, December 9, 2011 at the Crawford County Care Center.

She was born January 4, 1927 in New Castle, a daughter of William and Frances Serwatka Sokevitz.  She married John F. McConnell and subsequently married Michael L. Saletra November 19, 1972.

She was a 1945 graduate of New Castle High School.  She worked at the former Strouss’s Department Store in New Castle, Airway Industries in West Pittsburgh and was the manager of Island View Manor apartment complex in Marblehead, OH.

She enjoyed singing, writing children’s music and poetry and she enjoyed art.

Survivors, in addition to her husband Michael of 39 years, include: four daughters, Kathleen Whiting and her husband William of Conneaut Lake, Melanie Giesige and her husband John of Meadville, Barbara (Pinky) Richards and her husband James of Linesville and Stephanie Morar and her husband John of New Castle; a son, David McConnell and his wife Karla of New Castle; thirteen grandchildren, Errin, Hilary, Carson, Travis, Keith, Johnny, Lee, Phil, Chuck, Jesse, Mary, Tara and Robert; nineteen great grandchildren; a sister, Jeannie O’Leary and her husband Edward of New Castle; a brother, Edward Sokevitz of New Castle; a sister-in-law, Joyce Saletra of New Castle and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Ronald Sokevitz and a sister, Marion Sokevitz.

Calling hours will be Monday from 1 to 4 p.m. at Waid-Coleman Funeral Home, 12422 Conneaut Lake Road, Conneaut Lake.

The funeral and committal service will be Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Dennis Chludzinski, Chaplain of Lakeland Hospice and Fr. Steve Anderson of Our Lady Queen of the Americas Church, officiating.
