Dorothy Glenn Boyd, 93, formerly of Meadville was called home by her Heavenly Father and welcomed into His arms Saturday, July 20, 2019 at her daughter, Rebecca’s (Becky) home in Michigan. She had lived a faithful and devoted Christian live.
She was born in Meadville April 15, 1926 a daughter of Paul and Georgia Stover Glenn. She married her love Kenneth T. Boyd February 19, 1950 and he preceded her in death January 19, 2012.
She was a 1944 graduate of Meadville High School and worked as a secretary at First Christian Church for 17 years and then as a secretary at Syst-A-Matic Tool in Meadville. After she retired she would work as a school van aide for Wykoff Transportation. Dorothy also worked alongside her husband at Boyd’s Upholstery weaving her magic by doing caning and thrush seating.
She was an active member of First Christian Church since 1943 and was the church historian from 1953-2004. She was a former member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, a former docent at the Baldwin-Reynolds House Museum, a member of the Saegertown Heritage Society and was involved with the youth vision ministry in Saegertown and Meadville. A little known fact is that Dorothy was a talented artist whose expertise was fashion and face drawing of which she left behind several drawings for the family to cherish.
She is survived by a daughter, Rebecca Miller (Daniel) of Bangor, MI; two sons, Kelly Boyd (Roberta) of Ashland, PA and Kerry Boyd (Deanna) of Meadville; four grandchildren, Janice Cauvel of Bangor, MI, Danelle Canfield (Brian) of Mechanicsville, MD, Ryan Miller (Evelyn) of Greensboro, NC and Gabrielle Boyd of Atlantic, PA; six great grandchildren, Misti Jo and Alonnah Cauvel, Abigail Nash, Isaiah Miller, Gage Norrix and Ainsley Halle; a step-grandson, Zackery Bailey and many loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three great grandchildren, Alissa Nash, Ridge Norrix and Baby Miller and two sisters, Pauline Boyd and Wilda Sippy.
Calling hours will be Friday, July 26th from 4-7 p.m. at the Robert W Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville.
The funeral service will be Saturday, July 27th at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with her son, Kelly and son-in-law, Daniel, officiating.
Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
The family suggests memorials be made to First Christian Church, 503 N. Main Street, Meadville, PA 16335.
