Dorothy Gwen Woznicki, 81, of Girard, died at home surrounded by her family on July 31, 2023.
She was born in Erie, March 10, 1942, a daughter of the late Merle L. and Pearl E. Meyer Schell. She married Richard James Woznicki June 22, 1963 and he preceded her in death February 18, 2022.
Gwen was a 1960 graduate of Harborcreek High School. She worked at Giant Eagle as a department manager in health and beauty products and general merchandise. She was a member of United Foods and Commercial Workers Local 23.
An active member of St. Boniface Church, she served on the Bereavement Committee. Gwen treasured her memories of time shared with her granddaughter Sidney. She loved being out in nature and had a love for the animal kingdom. She had a special passion for birding. Two of Gwen’s animal totems were the moose and the elk. She enjoyed studying about them and she took annual pilgrimages to Benezette, PA to be in the presence of the elk. Gwen also loved all dogs, especially Takoda who brought her, Rich, and Pam so much love and joy over these final and very difficult years. She loved the Pittsburgh Steelers. Gwen was also known for the delicious pies that she would bake.
Survivors include two children, Richard M. Woznicki (Charlotte) of Hartselle, AL and Pam R. Woznicki of Girard; a granddaughter, Sidney Woznicki; a sister-in-law, Marcia Krisch of Lawrence Park; a brother-in-law, Nicholas J.
