Dorothy V. Connor

Dorothy V. Connor, 92, formerly of North Street, Meadville, and Chicago, died Saturday September 23, 2006 at Wesbury United Methodist Community.

She was born in East Mead Twp., August 2, 1914, a daughter of Arthur A. and Frances V. DuCray LeComte.  She married John F. Connor January 7, 1948, at Sts. Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church, Pettis, and he preceded her in death on September 27, 2001.

She was a graduate of Meadville High School after riding the milk wagon to school each day from her rural farm on Kiser Hill, East Mead Twp.

She served in the U. S. Navy during the World War II with the WAVES, in Washington, D.C., and was discharged with the rank of Seaman First Class.

Dorothy was a talented artist and throughout her life enjoyed writing poetry and short stories. While in high school she spent summers painting slides for National Geographic.  She had worked in Medical Records at the former Meadville City Hospital.

In 1949 she and her husband moved to Chicago where they lived for many years before returning to Meadville.  She was a graduate of the Secretarial Institute of Chicago and was employed at St. Frances Hospital in Medical Records and also held several positions in sales throughout her working career.

She was a member of St. Agatha Roman Catholic Church.

She is survived by nieces and nephews over three generations.

In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by one sister, Marie V. Rickert, and three brothers, Joseph Richard, and Murray and Elmer LeComte.

A calling hour will be Tuesday from 10-11 a.m. at St. Hippolyte Roman Catholic Church, 25997 State Highway #27, (Frenchtown) where Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., with the Rev. Fr. Dennis Veltri, pastor, as celebrant.

Burial will be in Sts. Peter and Paul Church cemetery, Pettis, with Military Honors by VFW Post #2006.
