Douglas F. Gawne, Jr.

Douglas F. Gawne, Jr., 73, of Meadville died at home surrounded by his family, Monday, May 16, 2011.

He was born in Meadville, November 14, 1937 a son of Douglas F. and Ruth E. Kohler Gawne, Sr.  He married DeArno S. Siverling April 19, 1958 and she survives.

He first owned and operated Gawne Bros. Esso Gas Station on the corner of Park Ave. and Walnut St. in Meadville.  He then worked at Precision Tool and Mold, then GTI of Saegertown, Talon Inc. at Plant 5 and then retired from Area Tool and Mfg. in 2001.  He was a 1956 graduate of Meadville High School and Vocational School.  He was a former fireman with Vernon Central Hose Co. and was a member of the Tool Room Bowling League.  He enjoyed canoeing, was an avid walker, loved taking care of his property and he volunteered at Roche Park.

Survivors, in addition to his wife DeArno of 53 years, include: a son, Douglas F. Gawne III and his wife Beverly of Meadville; a daughter, Lynn Sciulli and her husband Riccardo of Glenshaw; a brother, Edgar J. Gawne and his wife Helen of Cortland, OH; five grandchildren, Nicholas C. Sciulli, Bryan Douglas Sciulli, Christopher R. Sciulli, Douglas F. Gawne IV and Daniel W. Gawne, a niece, several nephews and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Per his request, there will be no viewing.

A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, May 21st from 12-4 p.m. at Vernon Central Hose Co., 16589 McMath Avenue, Meadville.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorials be made to Hospice of Crawford County, 464 Pine Street, Meadville, PA 16335.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville.
