Doyle A. Shank was born October 11, 1920 in Green Township, Indiana County, Pennsylvania one of 12 children.  He passed on October 26, 2017 in New Oxford, PA where he had resided for the last 9 years.  He formerly lived on Williamson Road in Meadville PA.

Doyle graduated from Indiana University of PA, with a B.S. in Business Education, majoring in Accounting, Retail Selling, Merchandising and Office Procedures in 1948. He earned his Master of Business Education from Pennsylvania State University in 1953.

He had 37 years of accredited teaching service in the Meadville Area.  He retired as the Business Education Department chairman.  He also taught evening classes for the American Institute of Banking and Continuing Education classes for the Pennsylvania State University.

Doyle retired as a Lt. Colonel in the United States Army Reserve.  He served in the Quartermaster Corps and Finance Corps in WWII and as Quartermaster Depot Administrative Officer and in the Military Advisor Group for South Korea Army Quartermaster Corps in the Korean War.

After retiring from teaching, Doyle and his wife Marian (a Vocational Home Economics Teacher in the Meadville School District as well) enjoyed many years of airstreaming across the country together.  Doyle was a member of the Wally Byam Caravan Club International since 1976.  He held a number of positions within the club including Public Relations Director and International Rally Controller.

Doyle was predeceased by his wife Marian (Russell) Shank on August 1, 1993.  He is survived by his son Jeff Shank and his wife Jill (Oakes) in York, PA; a daughter Ardythe Ellison and her husband Kenneth in Accokeek, MD; and a grandson Jason Knight and his wife Mary Kay who reside in Wheeling WV.  Avalee Keyworth, a sister, lives in Highland, Michigan.

Doyle was a member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church of Meadville, the American Legion, and Military Officers Association of America.  He also held lifetime memberships with the PA Association of School Retirees and the Reserve Officer Association.

Doyle was a kind, wise man with a big heart and a great sense of humor.  An avid Penn State football fan, Doyle was still watching the Nittany Lions this fall with hopes of another Big 10 Championship.   He will be missed.  In celebration of his long, well-lived life his family requests that you make a donation to a charity of your choice.

Calling hours will be Thursday, November 2nd from 4 to 7 p.m. at the ROBERT W. WAID FUNERAL HOME, 581 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE.

The funeral service will be Friday, November 3rd at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Ben Travis, Pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, officiating.

Interment will be in Greendale Cemetery with military honors provided by VFW Post 2006.
