Dr. Candido Taloza Cortes, Jr.

Dr. Candido Taloza Cortes, Jr., 66 of 13232 Laurel Drive, Meadville, died Tuesday, March 20, 2007 at the Meadville Medical Center following a short illness.

He was born June 6, 1940 in Buguey, Philippines a son of Dr. Candido and Simplicia Taloza Cortes, Sr.  He married Joyce Lynne Adlis July 8, 1966 and she survives.

He was a graduate of Far Eastern University Medical School, Manila, Philippines and was a general surgeon for more than 25 years, joining the medical practice of Dr. Antonio Sarain in Linesville in 1971.

He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, the American Cancer Society, Sertoma Club, Meadville Elks Lodge #219, Bassmaster’s Association of Crawford County and the Pennsylvania Medical Society.  In addition to his passion for fishing, Dr. Cortes had many hobbies and interests, including cooking, a great appreciation for music and a life-long desire to master the latest dance moves.

Survivors in addition to his wife Joyce of 40 years, include: three daughters, Lisa Cortes Blough and her husband Matthew S. of Allison Park, Candice Mandera and her husband James M. of Medina, OH and Victoria Cortes and her husband James D. Hickernell of Manassas, VA; one son, Ricardo Cortes and his wife Alison Nicoll of Los Gatos, CA; five grandchildren, Meredith and Clayton Blough, Madelyn and Avery Mandera and Ewan Cortes; two sisters, Nancy and Irma in the Philippines; four brothers, Dr. Renato Cortes, Mr. Percival Cortes and Dr. Omar Cortes all in the Philippines and Mr. Amado Cortes in the United Arab Emirates and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews in the US and the Philippines.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Ricardo and Dante and one sister, Terecita.

Calling hours will be Friday from 4-7 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville.

The funeral service will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Christ Episcopal Church, 870 Diamond Park, Meadville with Fr. Robert Martin, officiating.
