Dr. David W. Degrange

Dr. David W. DeGrange, 80, of Conneaut Lake, died unexpectedly Sunday, February 13, 2011,  at Meadville Medical Center.

He was born in Meadville, February 12, 1931, a son of the late Alvin J. "Chick" and Florence Kessler DeGrange.  He married first Carol Buttermore January 1952 and subsequently married Diane Portfilio June 30, 2003.

Dave was a 1949 graduate of Meadville High School, attended Allegheny College where he was a member of Phi Kappa Si fraternity and the Allegheny Singers and graduated second in his class from the University of Pittsburgh Dental School.  He then served in the US Navy from 1956-1958 as a Lieutenant in the Dental Corps.

Dr. DeGrange operated his dental practice in Meadville for 38 years retiring in 1996.  He was a member and past president of Northwest Pennsylvania Dental Society, a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Meadville and a volunteer in the Meadville Soup Kitchen.

He was an avid golfer and runner and also had been a performance ice skater,  a member and long time treasurer of the Meadville Ski Club, enjoyed sailing, hunting, fishing, dancing and just being active.

Survivors in addition to his wife Diane, include: 3 daughters, Roxanne Beebe and her husband Kelly of North Richland Hills, TX, Deborah DeGrange of Cleveland Heights, OH  and Yvette Robinson and her husband Josh of Gainesville, FL; a step-daughter, Karen Nies of Meadville; a step-son, Michael Portfilio of Meadville; a sister, Nancy DeGrange of Hermitage; a brother, Ron DeGrange and his wife Jan of McMurray, PA; 6 grandchildren, Erich Day and his wife Sarah, Alexander Beebe, Christina Delvalle, Sean Delvalle, Lilli Robinson and Luke Robinson; 3 step-grandchildren, Joey Nies, Daniel Nies and Megan Nies, and nieces, nephews, and cousins.  He was anticipating the imminent arrival of his first great granddaughter in April.

The memorial service will be Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 346 Chestnut St., Meadville, with the Rev. Carmen Emerson, Pastor, officiating.

The family suggests memorials be made to the Unitarian Universalist Church, 346 Chestnut St., Meadville, PA 16335, or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville, PA 16335.
