Dr. John L. Anderson, Dvm

Dr. John L. Anderson, 87, of Meadville died Monday, May 10, 2010 at Hamot Medical Center, Erie following a brief illness.

He was born in Cochranton, July 31, 1922 a son of Ray C. and Nellie Shilling Anderson.  He had been married to Phyllis Gallagher and subsequently married Margaret Becker November 2, 1963 and she survives.

He was a 1940 graduate of Cochranton High School and a 1953 cum laude graduate of Ohio State University with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree.  Following graduation he returned to Meadville and joined Dr. Arthur Langdon in his veterinary practice, retiring in 1987.  He was a veteran of World War II serving in the US Navy from 1944-1946.  He was a member of Masonic Lodge #234 and Zem Zem Shrine Temple, Erie.  He had been active in the N/W Pennsylvania Veterinary Medical Assoc., helped coach computer classes for several years at Wesbury United Methodist Community, enjoyed woodworking, hunting and spending time at the camp he had with his brothers near Tionesta.  He also enjoyed Civil War history and was a member of the Meadville Civil War Roundtable

Survivors, in addition to his wife include: a daughter, Marilyn Watson and her husband Denny of Conneaut Lake; two grandchildren, Suzanne Smith and her husband Christopher of Middletown, MD and Robert S. Watson of Meadville; three great grandchildren, Tucker Watson, Erin Smith and Clayton Smith; a sister, Bettee George of Castle Rock, CO and two brothers, Joe Anderson of Springville, NY and Ray Anderson of Cochranton and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville.  The funeral service will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Benjamin Travis, Pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, officiating.

Interment will be in Greendale Cemetery.
