Dr. Lloyd Lawrence Swisher

Dr. Lloyd Lawrence Swisher, of Meadville, former superintendent of the Meadville District of the Erie Methodist Conference, died at his home Wednesday morning at the age of 61 following a short illness.

Dr. Swisher was born near Pittsburgh on December 22, 1872, and his early boyhood was spent at Emlenton, his family later moving to Oil City where he received his public school education.

He graduated from Allegheny College in 1899 and from the Drew Seminary in 1901.

In 1903, he was admitted to the Erie Conference and served appointments at the Oil City Bethel Church, Simpson Church at Erie, First Church at Greenville and the Warren, PA, First Church and at a church in Dunkirk, NY, before being appointed district superintendent of the Meadville District in 1923.  He retired in 1925 because of loss of his sight.

He was a member of the board of directors of the Ida M. Cribbs Methodist Home and was present at the last meeting of the board held at Stone Church on March 7.  He also participated in funeral services for Dr. William H. Crawford on March 8.

He was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity and Masonic Lodge at Warren.

Dr. Swisher is survived by his widow, Ada Appleyard Swisher; a sister, Mrs. R. M. Lupold of Pittsburgh and several nieces.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Lakeview Cemetery, Jamestown, NY.
