Dr. Richard L. Teubert, 89, of Cochranton and a resident of Wesbury United Methodist Community died there Friday, January 11, 2019.
He was born in Erie, PA January 1, 1930 the son of William and Evelyn Anderson Teubert. He married Dorothy Mae Auch August 15, 1953 and she preceded him in death June 7, 1995 after 42 years of marriage.
Dick graduated from Academy High School in Erie in 1948 and then attended Penn State University Forestry Campus at Mont Alto, PA. He graduated from the main campus of Penn State in 1952 with a B.S. degree with a major in the sciences and a minor in geology. He continued his studies, receiving a M.Ed. degree at Penn State and an ROTC commission as an Infantry Second Lieutenant. He taught for one year in the North East School District before being called to active duty during the Korean War, serving for over two years and was promoted to the rank of Captain. He returned to the classroom at North East and after one year was hired by the Lawrence Park School District where he taught biology for several years before becoming principal of two elementary schools in the district. He subsequently accepted the position of Elementary Curriculum Director at Crawford Central School District and later became Assistant Superintendent of Schools, a position he held for over fifteen years.
During the summer months Dick attended National Service Foundation Scholarship Courses at the University of Maryland, the University of California at Santa Barbara, Cornell University, the University of Wisconsin, Edinboro University and the State University of New York at Buffalo. In the following years he also completed a five year visiting professor and correspondence course with Nova University of Florida, spending the summer on campus and receiving a Doctor of Education degree. During the regular school year, he continued his military career by completing the five year Advanced Infantry Course in the evening in Erie. He subsequently taught the same course in Erie and was promoted to the rank of Major. He then took the five year Command and General Staff course culminating at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. He then taught the same course to field grade officers at the Erie Army Reserve Center and was promoted to the rank of Lt. Colonel. He will be remembered and missed by many. Dick loved his 35 acre gentleman’s farm where he appreciated and loved the outdoors.
Dick was very active in the community. He was a member of Stone United Methodist Church and served on several boards including: Wesbury United Methodist Community, The Salvation Army, Hillside Home, The French Creek Valley Military Officers Association, The John Brown Heritage Association and the Retired School Administrators Group.
Calling hours will be Thursday, January 17th from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville. The memorial service will follow at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Sarah Roncolato, Pastor of Stone United Methodist Church, officiating and military honors provided by VFW Post #2006.
Interment will be in Erie Cemetery, Erie.
