Dr. Robert N. Moyers

Dr. Robert N. Moyers, dedicated physician, community servant, avid gardener, and friend of Conneaut Lake, passed away at home peacefully at the age of 90, on Monday, March 25, 2019.

Bob was born in Wheeling, WV, on November 5, 1928, the son of Ted and Mary Moyers.  He served in the Korean War as a Second Lieutenant from 1951 – 1953.  His combat experiences in Korea led him to pursue a career in medicine.  Bob met his wife, Bobbie, while attending Allegheny College, and they were married on August 24, 1957.  He received his MD from the University of Pittsburgh in 1962.

Bob was a physician in Family Practice in the Meadville area for thirty-five years.  He cared for generations of families. He was devoted to his patients, delivering babies and even making the occasional house call.  Bob served as the first Medical Director of the Meadville Medical Center from 1995-1999.  He served as President of the Crawford County Medical Society.  He was Chairman of the Board and, in 1991, President of the Pennsylvania Medical Society.  Bob was deeply invested in the medical students whom he mentored through the Student Preceptorship Program.

At the national level, Bob represented Pennsylvania physicians as a delegate to the American Medical Association for more than 20 years.  He served as Chairman of the Council on Medical Education, which is the accrediting body for medical education programs throughout the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico.  After retiring, Bob continued to care for his community as a volunteer physician at the Meadville Area Free Clinic until 2015.

Bob dedicated himself to the service of the local community throughout his life.  For many years, Bob served as an Elder of the Conneaut Lake Presbyterian Church.  He also served as a member of the Conneaut Lake School Board, was active in the Conneaut Lake Historical Society, was a leading member of the Conneaut Lake Community Development Committee, and along with his wife, was one of the founders of Ice House Park.

His greatest joy was his family whom have shared many happy memories together.  They have gathered to celebrate his life and legacy, and include his wife, Bobbie, and five children, Christine Morian (Steve) of Conneaut Lake, Katherine Baum of Wexford, Holly Dhaliwal McMaster of Wexford, Rob Moyers (Verlynda) of Rapid City, SD, and Ted Moyers (Tammy) of Conneaut Lake; 13 grandchildren, Jaime (Kevin), Jesse (Bobbie), Matthew (Rebecca), Hanna, Lauren, Anna (Paul), Olivia, Sam, Devin, Makensie, Ethan, Adrian and Madeline, and five great-grandchildren, Nick, Elizabeth, Ben, Kylah, and Declan.  He is also survived by his sister, Nancy Helmreich (Jonathan), of Sanibel, Fl, and his brother, Lou Moyers, of Conneaut Lake, nieces and nephews, Jim, Mike, Mary, Doug, Susy, Jack and Jeff, and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

Bob’s wonderful sense of humor will be missed by his family and many good friends.

Visitation will be Thursday, March 28th from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Waid-Coleman Funeral Home, Inc., 12422 Conneaut Lake Road, Conneaut Lake.  The funeral will be Friday, March 29th at 11:00 a.m. at the Presbyterian Church of Conneaut Lake, 145 S. Fifth Street, Conneaut Lake with Rev. Sam Heagy, Pastor, officiating.

Interment will be in Greendale Cemetery, Meadville.
