Dr. Thomas M. Watson

Dr. Thomas M. Watson, 53, of Meadville, died unexpectedly Saturday, November 6, 1999 at Meadville Medical Center.

He was born in Pittsburgh, June 29, 1946, a son of the late William Gray & Margaret Meister Watson.  He married Debra Arthur, May 5, 1979 and she survives.

He graduated from Bowdoin College, Brunswick, ME, with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and graduated in 1976 from the University of Pittsburgh Medical School.  He had residencies in General Surgery at the University of Virginia Hospital, Charlottesville, VA and Southern Illinois University Hospital, Springfield, IL.  He completed a Fellowship in Vascular Surgery with Dr. David Sumner at Southern Illinois University Hospital.

He located his surgical practice in Meadville in July 1982.  He was a first Lieutenant in the US Army in Vietnam and was a recipient of the Bronze Star.  He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and a former elder.  He was a member and past president of the Crawford County Medical Society; a member of the PA Medical Society; a Fellow of the American College of Suregeons; a member of the American Board of Surgery; a Diplomat for the National Board of Medical Examiners; a member of Allegheny Vascular Society; a member of the Eastern Vascular Society; the former Chief of Surgery at Meadville Medical Center; and a member of the Executive Committee of Meadville Medical Center.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include one daughter, Gretchen Watson and two sons, Ben and James Watson, all at home; one sister, Kate MacVean of Pittsburgh; one brother, James Gray Watson of Tulsa, OK and two nephews.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
