Dr. William O. Boss

November 4, 1892 — October 6, 1973

Dr. William O. Boss, 80, who had been a patient at Flickinger Convalescent Home since February 1968, died there Saturday, October 6, 1973, after a 10 year illness.

He was born in Townville on November 4, 1892, a son of William H. and Mabel Baker Boss.  He married Mabelle L. Corliss on June 19, 1918.  She died February 13, 1968.  He graduated from Townville High School and attended Allegheny College.  He was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh Dental School and served as a dental surgeon in the US Army furing World War I, being discharged as a major chief dental officer.  In 1920, he was appointed to the Commissioned Corps of the Public Health Service and was chief of dental service to the US Marine Hospitals at Cleveland, Chicago, New York City, Louisville, and Boston.  He was assigned to the 7th United States Coast Guard District Office in Miami in 1949 and served there until he reitred on February 1, 1957.

Dr. Boss was a lifetime member of the American Dental Society, was a member of the Retired Officers Association, Delta Sigma Delta Fraternity, Titusville Masonic Lodge, Caldwell Consistory at Bloomsburg and Almas Shrine Lodge at Washington DC.

Survivors include three nephews, C. Raymond Corliss of Meadville, Harland Corliss of Townville and Norman Corliss of San Antonio, TX; a brother, Carlos Boss of Silver Spring, MD; and three nieces, Mrs. Leonard (Carol) Hilden of Mullica Hill, NJ, Mrs. C.P. (Kay) Toohey of Meaville and Margaret Soules of Donnellsville, OK.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Kingsley Cemetery.
