Dr. William R. Olsen

August 12, 1897 — November 19, 1982

Dr. William R. Olsen, 85, a resident of United Methodist Home and Nursing Hospital since July 10, 1982, and prior to that was a Cochranton resident for 57 years, died at the hospital Friday, November 19, 1982, after an illness of several months.

He was born at Tarr Station, Westmoreland County, August 12, 1897, a son of Ola A. and Bertha Tarr Olsen.  He married Eva Mae Beal of Hadley, June 22, 1921.

Dr. Olsen had a chiropractic office in Cochranton for 35 years.

During World War II he worked for the State Rationing Board at Harrisburg.  He attended Allegheny College and graduated from Texas Chiropractic College at San Antonio, December 16, 1919.  A charter member of Cochranton Masonic Lodge 790, he also was a member of PA Chiropractic Assn.

Dr. Olsen was a 57-year member of Cochranton United Methodist Church and a former member of the church board.  He was a long-time teacher of the Friendship Sunday School Class.

In addition to his wife, his is survived by a daughter, Mrs. John (Virginia) Reitmeyer of Shippensburg; two sons,  E. Lyle Olsen of Cochranton and Glenn W. Olsen of Edinboro; two brothers, R. Wade Olsen of Pittsburgh and Donald H. Olsen of Bellevue, WA; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.   Two brothers preceded him in death.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Cochranton Cemetery.
