Dr. Seung Chan (Sam) Lee

January 15, 1937 — August 21, 2022

Dr. Seung Chan (Sam) Lee, 85, formerly of Meadville, passed away peacefully on August 21, 2022.

He was born in Korea in 1937, graduated in 1962 from the Catholic University of Korea, and served in the Korean navy during the Vietnam War.  Dr. Lee was an orthopedic surgeon and beloved professor at his alma mater.  He married Pok Sil Song in 1967.  They immigrated to the United States in the early 1970s.

Sam and Pok raised their children among dear friends and colleagues in Meadville.  He worked for almost 30 years as an anesthesiologist and later as the chief of anesthesiology at Meadville Medical Center.

Sam enjoyed gathering with friends and family to hike and play mahjong, and especially golf.  He also loved reading the New York Times, National Geographic, and Time Magazine, which he subscribed to and studied first when he was in high school.  Upon his retirement, Sam and Pok moved to Mukilteo, WA.  They traveled frequently to visit their children and grandchildren as well as with friends to places like Peru and Thailand.  Sam is remembered most for his generous spirit and kind nature, warming the hearts of his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife Pok Sil Lee; his children, Hee Sun Vlasnik (Jon), Jee Young Lee, Jee Yoon Lee (John Ponyicsanyi), Oh Mee Lee, and Raleigh Lee; as well as his grandchildren, Alison, Drew, and Emily Vlasnik, Walter Lee, Henry and Charles Ponyicsanyi, and William and Edward Liu.  Sam was dearly loved and will be deeply missed.

Family and friends will be received Sunday, August 28th from 12-2 p.m. at the ROBERT W. WAID FUNERAL HOME, 581 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE where a memorial service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Timothy Solomon officiating.
