Earl W. Hollabaugh, 46, a Guys Mills farmer, died at Spencer Hospital Tuesday morning from injuries sustained on July 31.
Hollabaugh suffered severe injuries while he was engaged in helping a neighbor tear down an old barn. With several other men, Hollabaugh was endeavoring to push down one of the side walls, and when the side resisted their efforts, he went into the building in an attempt to push the wall outward. A few seconds later, the wall collapsed, pinning Hollabaugh to the barn floor.
Frantic efforts removed the heavy timbers from the man's body and he was rushed to the Meadville hospital, where examination disclosed a double fracture of the spine, severance of the spinal cord, and several broken ribs.
Hollabaugh was well known in the Guys Mills area. A World War veteran, he served overseas with American forces.
He is survived by his wife, one son, Wayne and three daughters, Louise, Nita Grace, and Mrs. Frank Williams; by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Hollabaugh, a brother, Glenn, all of Randolph Township, and a sister, Mrs. Walter Jennings of Bradleytown.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
