Edgar L. Gasteiger, 81, was fatally injured in a fall down the cellar steps at his home in Meadville on October 26, 1967.
Mr. Gasteiger was a retired statistician for state and federal departments of agriculture from 1925 to 1952, during which time he resided at Harrisburg.
He came to Meadville in 1916 from the state of Washington and was graduated from Allegheny College as an economics major in 1924. In 1925, he received a masters of arts degree in agriculture economics from the University of Illinois.
He was born at Somerset, a son of Joseph and Mary Beam Gasteiger, on September 7, 1886. He marriage to Margaret E. Bowman took place on December 31, 1908.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Meadville and the Men's Bible Class of that church. He also was a member of Fairfax Masonic Lodge 96, Davis, WV; Meadville Grange; Meadville Kiwanis Club; Senior Citizens; and West Mead Civic Organization.
Surviving are his widow; four sons, Lawrence D. of Gredenia, CA, Dean W. of Bristol, VA, Mark T. of Harrisburg and Edgar L. of Ithaca, NY; a daughter, Mrs. Ralph H. (Irene) Holtzau of Molakai, HI; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Manthey and Mrs. Hila Quinn, both of Pittsburgh; three brothers, Louis D. and William H., both of Johnson City, TN and Justus A. of Pittsburgh; eighteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
