Edith B. Buttermore, 81, formerly of Meadville, a retired teacher, died Thursday, June 18, 1992, at the home of her daughter in Alliance, Ohio, following a lengthy illness.
She was born in Masontown, December 14, 1910, a daughter of Robert M. and Jessie Gillis Brown. She married Harrison R. Buttermore, July 11, 1933. He preceded her in death October 23, 1989.
She retired in 1972 as an elementary school teacher in Meadville after 29 years. She previously taught for three years in Crucible. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. She was a graduate of California State Teachers College, and did post-graduate studies at the University of Pittsburgh. She was a member of Trinity White Shrine, past matron of the Order of the Amaranth, former member of Delta Kappa Gamma sorority, and member of AARP.
Survivors include a daughter, Carol DeGrange of Alliance; two sons, Phillip Buttermore of Chambersburg and Robert Buttermore of Webster, NY; a sister, Gladys Patterson of Rice's Landing; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret and Elizabeth.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Greendale Cemetery.
