Edith Mae Everett Myers

September 9, 1924 — February 20, 2025

Sandy Lake

Edith Mae (Everett) Myers, 100, of Sandy Lake passed away on February 20, 2025. Edith was born to Leroy and Mamie (Price) Everett on September 9, 1924. Edith graduated from Linesville-Conneaut High School before continuing her education at Indiana State Teacher’s College where she received her Bachelors Degree. She went on to obtain her Master’s Degree in Education from Penn State University. She had also received credits from Theil College, Westminster College and Alaska University. She spent her teaching career in the Lakeview School District where she taught Home Economics until her retirement in 1984.

Edith married the love of her life, Leon Myers, on December 31, 1963. He preceded her in death on July 11, 2006.

Edith was a devout member of the Sandy Lake Presbyterian Church for over 50 years. Edith enjoyed her time at the McQuiston Center where she would visit with many of her former students and friends. Edith had a goal from the time she was in grade school geography class, and that was to visit every state’s capital in the United States, and she was able to achieve that goal through her love of traveling. Edith even traveled outside of the United States and made it to some spots in Europe and Asia. Edith and Leon were season ticket holders for Penn State Football, and while they could both travel, they rarely missed a game! WE ARE!

Edith was named an Honorary Sailor in 2019 for her service at Lakeview High School. She served as National President of Home Economics Teachers and she was honored as a part of Who’s Who American Teachers on two different occasions. Edith was a part of the local PTA, the Women’s Club, and the music club. She also served as a board member on the Children’s Aid Society where she was the “Volunteer of the Year” twice.

Edith is survived by her step-children: Rita (Ron) Glidersleeve of Charlotte, N.C.; Karol (Norris) Scott of Cleveland, OH; Rhonda (John, dec.) Hough of Butler, PA; and Richard (Janet) Myers of Pittsburgh, PA; as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Edith often mentioned how proud she was of her family, and their achievements.

Edith is preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
