Edith Russell Finkbeiner

Edith Russell Finkbeiner, 94, of Mercer and formerly of Meadville and Guys Mills, died Tuesday, August 18, 2009 in Guys Mills.

She was born August 6, 1915 in Harmony, a daughter of the late James C. and Maria C. Landa Russell.  She married John Francis Finkbeiner June 14, 1938 and he preceded her in death April 15, 1971.

She was a 1932 graduate of Titusville High School and was employed at Wesbury United Methodist Community for 14 years as a nurse’s aid.  She previously worked at the American Viscose, and did private duty home care for 10 years.

Edith was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Meadville for over 50 years.

Survivors include a daughter, Marilyn Ervin and her husband James of Laguna Woods, CA; a son, John F. Finkbeiner and his wife Leslie of Mercer; a daughter-in-law, Cindy Finkbeiner of Guys Mills; 7 grandchildren, Susan E. Woodard and her husband Brent of Laguna Niguel, CA, James R. Ervin and his wife Brooke of Cary, NC, John J. Finkbeiner and his wife Kathleen of Beaver Falls, Joshua L. Finkbeiner and his wife Keeren of Jersey City, NJ, Jeremy R. Finkbeiner of Apex, NC, Robert G. Finkbeiner of Guys Mills, and Sarah L. Finkbeiner of Moab, UT; 4 great-grandsons, Nolan Finkbeiner, Zachary Woodard, Brecken Finkbeiner, and Dylan Finkbeiner; and many nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Robert M. Finkbeiner; 4 brothers, Howard, Joe, Allen, and Mark Russell; and 5 sisters, Connie Ralston, Anita Rogers, Louise Wallis, Judith Powell, and Elva Griffiths.

Calling hours will be Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville.

A funeral service will be Friday at 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Douglas Messerall, Pastor of Calvary Baptist Church officiating.

Interment will be in Greendale Cemetery.
