Edward Joseph Russell

Edward Joseph Russell, 89 of Fredonia, passed away on May 19, 2019 at Meadville Medical Center. Edward was born in the Mercer Cottage Hospital on November 6, 1929 to the late Franklin and Bertha McGrath Russell. Edward was a graduate of Stoneboro High School and worked for many years on his Dairy Farm in Fredonia. He was a very hard worker and loved his cows. In his earlier years he drove a milk truck for various companies. He was a member of the National Farmers Organization. After retirement he would drive many Amish to work. Edward married his beloved wife, Gladys Derr Russell, on April 26, 1952. They just recently celebrated 67 years together. She survives at home. Edward was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church in Mercer. In his earlier years he was First Order Knight for the Knights of Columbus. In addition to his wife, Edward is survived by his children, MaryAnn (Jim) Harpst of Lititz, PA, and Rosemarie (Ron) Philson of Saegertown, PA, six grandchildren, Jason (Leanne) McCurdy, Jeremy (Tiffany) McCurdy, Shannon Geiger and companion Aaron Rekich, Shawn (Karen) McCurdy, Kristina Harpst, and Kimberly (Dave) Staub, thirteen great-grandchildren, and three step great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Edward was preceded in death by three brothers, and one sister. Funeral Arrangements have been entrusted to Black Funeral Home of STONEBORO, 99 Franklin Street, where family and friends are welcome from 11 am to 12:30 pm on Wednesday, May 22, at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 100 Penn Ave, Mercer, PA at 1 pm on Wednesday with the Very Reverend Matthew J. Kujawinski, officiating.
