Former Crawford County commissioner and state assemblyman Edwin E. Dane, 84, died after a brief illness at Methodist Manor Health Center near Milwaukee, WI, Monday, November 17, 1969. He had been there two weeks.
A former Meadville resident, he was born in Mount Jewett, McKean County, April 21, 1885, a son of Nelson and Elemina Oberg Dane. He married the former Grace Oakes January 16, 1915.
Mr. Dane was a member of Stone United Methodist Church, its Men's Bible Class and had served as a church trustee for 30 years. He was also a member of Meadville Grange. Mr. Dane had attended Bradford Commercial College.
He settled in Meadville in 1915 after several years in the hardware business in Mount Jewett. He was employed as a clothing merchant from 1915 to 1928, six of those years for the J. C. Penney Co.
He was a Crawford County commissioner from 1928 to 1931 and he served as a state assemblyman from 1932 to 1933.
Mr. Dane and his wife had operated a rooming house at Chautauqua, NY during the summer season from 1937 until several years ago.
Surviving, besides his widow, are one daughter, Mrs. John W. (Marian) Stretch of Glendale, WI; two sisters, Mrs. William Lindelow of Buffalo, NY and Miss Cecelia Dane of Lockport, NY; two brothers, Everett L. of Lake Worth, FL and William E. of Buffalo, NY; two granddaughters and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Greendale Cemetery.
