Edwin H. Durfee

December 25, 1896 — August 7, 1981

Edwin H. Durfee, of Meadville, died at City Hospital, Friday, August 7, 1981, following a brief illness.

He was born in Townville, a son of Edwin and Josephine Sturdevant.  He married Inez Wood, who died in 1974.

He attended the former Edinboro State Normal School and graduated from Grove City College.  He did post-grad work at Colubia University, New York City and received a master's degree from University of Pittsburgh.

He was a former school teacher and principle at Lincolnville, Linesville and Townville High Schools.  He and his wife also operated a riding academy at Canadhota Lake for many years.

He was a member of Townville United Methodist Church, Zem Zem Shrine Temple, Erie, and was a US Marine veteran, serving in France during World War I.

He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Ralph (Jean) Berlin of Edinboro; two sons, Jack of Pittsburgh and Joseph of St. Alban's, VT; several nieces and nephews; ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
