Elaine H. Richards, 83, of 1080 Liberty St. died Wednesday Nov. 27, 2002, at Meadville Medical Center, following an illness of several months.
She was born in Erie, May 31, 1919, a daughter of the late Louis & Martha Jane Allio Paddock.
She was a graduate of Conneaut Lake High School, where she was the first woman to earn a 4-year letter in Women’s Varsity Basketball.
She retired from National Tel-tronics as a machine operator, and assembler, and also worked for a time at the David Mead Inn.
She had been a member of the Italian Civic Club Auxiliary, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary.
Survivors include l daughter, Linda L. Roberts and her husband Philip of Spartanburg, SC, 2 sons William J. Richards, and his wife Gloria, of Reedsville, PA, and David D. Richards and his wife Joanne, of Meadville, 7 grandchildren, Jeremy Peterson, Steven, Susan, and Sarah Richards, Sheila Fleming, Terry Bishop, and Amy Chapman, and 7 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by 3 sisters, Thelma Waite, Dorothy Durney, and Lucille Mellon.
Calling hours will be Friday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut St. where the funeral and committal service will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m., with the Rev. William A. Brown, Visitation Pastor of Stone United Methodist Church, officiating.
Burial will be in Greendale Cemetery.
