Eleanor M. Ballut, 89, formerly of Conneaut Lake and a current resident of Wesbury United Methodist Community, died there Sunday, June 14, 2015 following a period of declining health.
She was born November 28, 1925 in Geneva, PA, a daughter of Ronald and Velma Bossard Burchfield. She married Walter Edward Ballut December 21, 1950 and he preceded her in death April 3, 1996.
Eleanor grew up on a farm and regularly assisted with farm chores. She was a homemaker, worked at Talon, and retired as manager of the Sunset View Motel in Conneaut Lake following 17 years of service.
Eleanor was known around Conneaut Lake for driving her red Ford Probe which she thoroughly enjoyed. She had attended High Street Community Church and was a member of the Sweet Adelines with whom she enjoyed traveling. She was a former member of Order of Eastern Star, girl scout leader, and PTA president. She enjoyed bowling, square dancing, and traveling with family. She cherished her pet dogs but was most proud of her family and loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Survivor include a son, Lonnie Edward Ballut of Conneaut Lake; two daughters, Melody Sherry of Meadville and Linda Abati McKinney and her husband Michael of Cape Coral, FL; six grandchildren, Chanelle Lucas and her husband Michael of Meadville, Tony Sherry and his wife Laura of Conneaut Lake, Rachelle Vergari and her husband Dylan of Cincinnati, OH, Valerie Schneider and her husband Major Erich of Fort Carson, CO, Brandan Abati and his wife Erica of Pittsburgh, and Luke Ferry and his girlfriend Nicole of Conneaut Lake; eight great-grandchildren, Mila Lucas, Brady Sherry, Connor, Alaina, and Nathan Vergari, Brayden and Kendall Schneider, and Abby Ferry; a brother, Donald Burchfield and his wife Virginia of Conneaut Lake; friends dear to her heart, Louise McKalip, Joan Allshouse, and Joanna Steadman; and nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Ronald Burchfield his wife Marlene; a sister, Evelyn Burchfield; and dear sister-in-law, Joyce Burchfield.
A celebration of life service is today at 2:00 p.m. in the Barco Chapel at Wesbury, 31 N. Park Ave., Meadville.
Calling hours will be Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Waid-Coleman Funeral Home, 12422 Conneaut Lake Rd., Conneaut Lake where the funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. Philip Torre officiating.
Entombment will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Crawford County Humane Society, 11012 Kennedy Hill Rd. or the Wesbury Foundation (for the benevolent care fund), 31 N. Park Ave., both of Meadville, PA 16335.
